A magnificent stone house, Maison de Domme is located in the village of Domme in the Dordogne. It is about 20 minutes drive from Sarlat la Canéda, capital of the famous Perigord Noir, and two and a half hours drive from Bordeaux.
The House
With its origins in the 13th century, Maison de Domme has been carefully updated to preserve its historic stone walls, arches, wooden doors and beams while offering the discerning guest modern luxury – large, bright en-suite bedrooms accented with local antiques, ultra-modern bathrooms with Philip Starck and Villeroy & Boch fixtures, wide screen TVs and WiFi, a fresh, modern kitchen complementing the top-end “La Cornue” oven and a wine cellar for connoisseurs and gourmets.
The Maison de Domme is one of the finest examples of Perigord architecture, located in the village of Domme.
The pricing is for up to eight guests.
On the ground floor is one with a Queen size bed and an ensuite bathroom; on the first floor are three bedrooms, each with two single beds that can be converted to a King size bed. All of these bedrooms have a bathroom with a toilet and shower. On the second floor is an additional lounge.
All types of fruit trees, flowers and spices awaken the senses in your lovingly tended private garden. Take a dip in the heated pool and cap the day off with local wine and delicacies from the village shops, a five minute walk away, on your private terrace shaded by grapevines.
Domme is classified as one of the most beautiful villages of France and occupies a splendid position high above the Dordogne river. The village is lovely and the views are a bonus, as is the cave system that sits right underneath the main square.
As the house is located in the village, you won’t need a car to go to local shops or visit restaurants. However, you will need one to travel further afield. There is parking for one car on-site, and public car-parking very close by.
Our English and French speaking property manager will meet you on arrival and can also provide concierge services on request.
The Location
Rated “one of the most beautiful villages of France” for its flower-laced medieval golden stone houses and historic sites, Domme is a world-famous jewel. Founded as a “royal bastide” – a fortress village – by Philippe III in 1281 as France and England entered the Hundred Years War, Domme offers commanding views of the Dordogne River valley and surrounding castles and villages. Along its parapets you can now sip the fine wines of Bordeaux and the region and imagine where French and English armies once battled.
Nearby you can explore the enchanting castles of Beynac, Fayrac, Castelnaud and La Roque-Gageac, the UNESCO World Heritage prehistoric caves at Lascaux and the charming towns and villages of the Dordogne’s Perigord Noir region.
