A magnificent stone house, Maison de Domme is located in the village of Domme in the Dordogne. It is about 20 minutes drive from Sarlat la Canéda, capital of the famous Perigord Noir, and two and a half hours drive from Bordeaux.

The House

Maison de Domme is one of the finest examples of Perigord architecture. It has four bedrooms and five bathrooms and has been renovated with contemporary comfort and luxury in mind.

With its origins in the 13th century, Maison de Domme has been carefully updated to preserve its historic stone walls, arches, wooden doors and beams while offering the discerning guest modern luxury – large, bright en-suite bedrooms accented with local antiques, ultra-modern bathrooms with Philip Starck and Villeroy & Boch fixtures, wide screen TVs and Wi-Fi, a fresh, modern gourmet kitchen featuring a top-end “La Cornue” oven and a wine cellar for connoisseurs.

Fruit trees and flowers awaken the senses in your lovingly tended private garden. Take a dip in the heated pool and cap the day off with local wine and delicacies from the village shops, a five minute walk away, on your private terrace shaded by grapevines.

The Location

Rated “one of the most beautiful villages of France” for its flower-laced medieval golden stone houses and historic sites, Domme is a world-famous jewel. Founded as a “royal bastide” – a fortress village – by Philippe III in 1281 as France and England entered the Hundred Years War, Domme offers commanding views of the Dordogne River valley and surrounding castles and villages. Along its parapets you can now sip the fine wines of Bordeaux and the region and imagine where French and English armies once battled.

Nearby you can explore the enchanting castles of Beynac, Fayrac, Castelnaud and La Roque-Gageac, the UNESCO World Heritage prehistoric caves at Lascaux and the charming towns and villages of the Dordogne’s Perigord Noir region.

What our guests say about La Maison de Domme

Simple but elegant ambience

This property is an absolute delight. The layout and simple but elegant ambience suited us perfectly, it was spotlessly clean and everything worked perfectly (thanks to the comprehensive briefing given by Patricia). The location in this gorgeous village was ideal – walking distance to excellent restaurants such as Chabanoix et Chataignes, Auberge de la Rode and Comptoir D’Annam (over the road) and to fabulous lookouts, walks, the local cave and some good shops. The outdoor entertainment area was such a pleasant spot for lunches and relaxing around the pool.
As we were celebrating a special birthday we used the services of a chef that was offered – what a fabulous experience! The quality of the food and the friendly yet professional service was first class – thank you David and to Patricia for organising! We have no hesitation in recommending this property for couples wishing to stay in a beautiful house in a centrally located village for a wonderful Dordogne experience.

Wonderful home for exploring the Dordogne

We spent two weeks in this beautiful house and can’t recommend it enough. It is exactly as the description says. The location in the village is wonderful to be able to walk and get pastries in the AM or to stroll to dinner in the evening. The house is comfortable, spacious and fully equipped with everything we needed. Domme is a great location from which to explore the regions attractions – whether, going slightly further afield to Rocamadour (1 hour) or driving down the hill for a fabulous canoe trip down the river there is never any shortage of things to do. And, on several days a stroll through the village with a day spent poolside was plenty enough. Every part of the booking experience was seamless – the owner is quick to respond to questions and the maps and directions to the home perfect. The local host was delightful – she gave us great restaurant recommendations and spoke English perfectly. Highly recommended.
